Al Rawabi, the leading juice and dairy company in the United Arab Emirates, has announced that its 1.3MW large-scale green power biogas facility is now fully operational.

The only project of its kind in the Middle East, the plant will recycle organic waste from Al Rawabi’s operations into clean energy.

The sustainable operations of the biogas plant will also bring many other benefits, such as the production of highly concentrated organic fertilizers of around 10 tons / day and 150 cubic meters of water per day.

It will also generate 1.3 MW of green heat and protect groundwater with a 90% reduction in ammonia migration.

Going forward, Al Rawabi hopes that its biogas facility will enable the company to achieve clean energy consumption of 30% of the total energy used in its operations.

The announcement was made to coincide with Al Rawabi’s participation in the Wetex & Dubai Solar Show scheduled for October 5-7 at the Dubai Exhibition Center at Expo 2020 Dubai.

“As a sustainable and responsible company, Al Rawabi now secures a valuable portion of its energy consumption from renewable sources by recycling organic waste into clean fuel. The switch to green energy brings us closer to a cleaner and more environmentally friendly operation. Investing in this project is not only good for the planet, but also economic and logical from a business point of view, ”said Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, president of Al Rawabi, a local brand that has become a major player in the industry. FMCG industry in the region.

According to Al Owais, the biogas plant has been developed to fully support the UAE’s sustainability agenda. By replacing conventional and non-renewable energy sources with cleaner and sustainable alternatives, the company also hopes to reduce its carbon footprint and achieve an 80% reduction in odorous gas emissions.

The feasibility was realized in 2016 in cooperation with a prestigious German university. Extensive research was conducted with a UAE-based university a year later, with the biogas lab established as a first step in the project. Construction began in early 2020 by mele Company from Germany and was completed early this year.

“This is a fully sustainable operation that also brings the concept of the circular economy to life, which the UAE has been aggressively pushing as part of their vision for a more sustainable future,” said the CEO. Al Rawabi’s Professor Ahmed Eltigani, who said the facility has so far delivered an above-normal return on investment, just months after its trial operations began in June.

Noted for its high-quality juices and dairy products, Al Rawabi has been a strong advocate for supporting not only the UAE’s sustainable initiatives, but the public health agenda as well. “Our product portfolio is strongly aligned with solving important health issues such as high incidents of NCDs, obesity and diabetes among the consuming public. At Al Rawabi, we take our corporate social responsibility very seriously and seek to be an active leader in promoting public health and sustainable development programs, ”added Eltigani .– TradeArabia News Service
