Sanaa, December 2 (IANS): A Saudi-led coalition forces fighter jet carried out an airstrike on a military camp controlled by the Houthi militia in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, Houthi TV al-Masirah reported.

The airstrike hit the center of the 1st Armored Division camp on Wednesday afternoon, located on top of a hill surrounded by densely populated neighborhoods in the northern part of Sana’a, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

Smoke and dust were visible for miles from the military base, and residents told Xinhua that there was a powerful explosion that rocked the whole city.

Al-Masirah TV channel on Wednesday reported that the coalition had opened fire and targeted border areas in northwestern Saada province, killing three and injuring 20.

The Saudi-led coalition has yet to comment immediately, but it recently stepped up airstrikes against hidden stockpiles of ballistic missiles used by the Houthi militia.

The Iranian-backed Houthi militia recently stepped up cross-border missile and drone attacks against Saudi cities. In February, the Yemeni rebel group launched a major offensive against the Yemeni government army backed by Saudi Arabia to seize the oil province of Marib in central Yemen.
