Godwin Austen Johnson (GAJ), one of the UK’s leading UAE-based architecture and design firms, handed over the new headquarters of Abu Dhabi developer Miral after completion of its fit-out work.

The new office explores a progressive work environment with unconventional spaces that create an inspiring and efficient environment where employees appreciate the space they are in, which in turn results in greater productivity.

A first for the region, the indoor stainless steel slide, which runs from the first floor to the ground floor, adds a sense of play to the workplace, according to a statement from GAJ.

Another dominant design feature is the open red staircase. This industrial-looking staircase rests on a raised concrete plinth which also serves as an informal seat and acts as a social link between the two levels. The rawness of the red oxidized metal and concrete is offset by the colors of the plush seats, he said.

Jason Burnside, Partner at GAJ, said, “Today’s office space is all about balance. It is an environment designed to inspire employees to enjoy coming to work and to be much more productive when in the office.

“The slide is designed to recreate the element of risk taking and independence as it does in children, which in turn helps foster revolutionary ideas, promote interaction and connectivity,” a- he noted.

Spread over two floors, the new office is fluid and flexible with open workspace concepts, attractive spaces and collaboration nodes. The raised floor system with ceiling voids was designed to house the building infrastructure to ensure that the space remains flexible for potential future changes.

Explaining the concept, Burnside said: “The single and double booths come with AV connections to enable virtual meetings with a giant projection screen installed at one end to allow the area to be quickly converted into a presentation area. ”

“Continuing the industrial theme, grayscale was used as the base palette punctuated with splashes of vibrant color, most notably the bright yellow individual cabins that are cleverly recessed into the interior walls,” he noted.

Burnside said the neutral, raw tones of the raw concrete are interspersed with black metal and warm wood accents.

“The design, as a whole, is characterized by an unconventional selection of materials, finishes and furniture to create unique spaces for a distinctive spatial perception,” he added.TradeArabia News Service
