DUBAI, October 18, 2021 (WAM) – The governments of the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom (UK) have agreed on a new action plan to strengthen their economic ties across a wide range of vital sectors and future, including clean energy, research and development, innovation, infrastructure, tourism, food security, new technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), space and the fourth industrial revolution.

The two sides also agreed on practical measures to strengthen their economic ties and support sustainable development strategies in the two countries.

Their discussion took place at the seventh meeting of the UAE-British Joint Economic Committee, held on the sidelines of Expo 2020 Dubai.

At the meeting, Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, represented the government of the United Arab Emirates, and Ranil Jayawardena, UK Minister for International Trade, represented the UK government.

The meeting also took place in the presence of Mansour Abdullah Khalfan Belhoul, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the United Kingdom, by videoconference, in the presence of Juma Al Keet, Deputy Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs at the Ministry of the Economy, as well than several officials and representatives of the sector from both countries.

Dr Al Zeyoudi highlighted the close strategic ties between the UAE and the UK, noting that their economic ties are a key pillar of their growing cooperation.

He referred to the recent visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces, to the United Kingdom, which crowned efforts to strengthen strategic relations between the two countries.

“There are promising prospects for strengthening our economic cooperation, and we will coordinate with our partners in the UK to expand and diversify opportunities to access our markets, remove barriers to trade and identify new opportunities in strategic sectors. , especially trade, investment, health. and life sciences, energy and renewable energies, environmental conservation, agriculture, food security, financial services, education, scientific research and advanced technologies ”, a- he added.

During the meeting, Al Zeyoudi briefed the British delegation on recent developments in the UAE business community, including the “50 Projects” and new legislation and economic initiatives launched by the UAE.

Al Zeyoudi called on UK investors, entrepreneurs and businesses to visit Expo 2020 Dubai and take advantage of promising opportunities in the UAE’s economic sector.

Jayawardena underlined the UK’s willingness to strengthen its economic ties with the UAE. He noted that the committee offers a key opportunity to expand their economic ties to cover new sectors and deepen the partnership between the two countries, as well as attract investment, create new employment opportunities and facilitate the ‘UK and Emirati business access to both markets.

The two sides also approved practical measures to improve the access of SMEs to their respective markets. They developed a plan to promote cooperation in the fields of health, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, in addition to discussing ways to improve cooperation in the fields of clean energy, maritime sciences, change climate, sustainable agriculture, among other sectors.
