ABU DHABI, 25th January, 2022 (WAM) — His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces, congratulated Special Olympics UAE for being awarded the Special Olympics Healthy Grant Communities – 2021 by Special Olympics Worldwide.

This came as Sheikh Mohamed received a delegation from Special Olympics UAE at Qasr Al Bahr Palace and praised the efforts of all those who contributed to securing the grant that Special Olympics awards to countries implementing implements its healthy communities program.

“Ensuring the well-being of our determined people and providing them with comprehensive care that meets the highest international standards is at the heart of the UAE’s plans and programs to empower them and ensure their effective contribution to the development of the country,” said Sheikh Mohammad. delegation.

This award comes in recognition of Special Olympics UAE’s commitment to improving the quality of life for determined people, making the United Arab Emirates the first country in the Middle East and North Africa region to receive this grant during its first year of program implementation.

The mission of Special Olympics UAE is to provide year-round athletic training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Special Olympics provides opportunities to develop the physical fitness, social skills and participation of other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Commenting on the recognition, Shamma bint Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, said: “One of the significant results achieved as a result of hosting the Special Olympics Abu Dhabi 2019 World Games is to promote a global and sustainable community movement in all areas to integrate the determined and people with intellectual disabilities.
