Dubai, United Arab Emirates: The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), a global network of building services professionals, has set its sights in the Middle East by celebrating 125 years of being one of the highest authorities in the field. Sustainable transformation, in the context of efficiency and the environmental footprint of buildings, will be the cornerstone of our endeavors and endeavors in the Middle East, CIBSE announced.

Since its inception in 1897, CIBSE has advanced scientific best practice in building services engineering, investing in education and research, fostering a community of like-minded individuals and providing opportunities network for effective knowledge flows on a global scale. In recent years, CIBSE has positioned itself firmly at the intersection of the built environment, technology and sustainability, to reconcile the industry with emerging priorities.

“CIBSE members represent the crème de la crème of global construction services engineering. The long-standing trade association has remained a beacon of excellence throughout the vicissitudes of the building services industry. In the Middle East, where the need for world-class engineering services and practices has arisen over the past two decades, CIBSE’s region-specific roadmap for sustainable transformation will have consequences” , said Farah Naz, President of CIBSE. UAE Chapter.

After its official launch in Dubai in 2016, CIBSE has focused on community building initiatives through its esteemed sub-committees such as the Society of Public Health Engineers (SoPHE), the Society of Light and Lighting (SLL), the Young Engineers’ Network (YEN), and Women in Building Services Engineering (WiBSE). In 2021, CIBSE published two reports outlining minimum design guidelines for mechanical and electrical services in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

The reports specifically addressed design considerations, practices and technologies that can increase the efficiency of building services, optimize energy consumption and enable engineers to pursue net zero goals. CIBSE’s focus on sustainability and net zero emissions stems from a well-supported argument that buildings account for nearly 50% of global GHG emissions. In response, members of the association have undertaken recovery actions in their respective markets around the world.

“CIBSE is essentially mobilizing building services players and aligning them on a path to a future where built environments feature sustainability, green energy, data-driven operations and high quality of life. CIBSE, with its pedigree in the industry and global reputation, is well placed to orchestrate the scale of multi-stakeholder participation required to achieve this feat. The upcoming annual CIBSE UAE Awards are an ideal way to recognize exemplary professionals and encourage greater participation,” added Kevin Mitchell, CIBSE President.

Following pandemic-related disruptions last year, the CIBSE UAE Awards returns as an in-person event at the grandiose Armani Hotel, Burj Khalifa on September 8. A consulting firm, a graduate, a young engineer and a manufacturer from the MEP discipline will be awarded the CIBSE UAE Awards. Deluxe event sponsors include Polypipe, THERMOBREAK, Leminar, CVS and KAN-Therm. De Montfort University and Hisense HVAC are Gold sponsors.

With the 2022 CIBSE Awards coinciding with the association’s 125th anniversary, President Kevin Mitchell and CEO Ruth Carter will be in attendance, a first for the region. The awards are part of CIBSE’s motto of promoting careers in building services by recognizing exemplary performance. The association’s knowledge/resource portal empowers high performers and prospects by facilitating their path to full membership.

At a time of great dynamism in building services, CIBSE’s impact in enabling transnational collaborations and knowledge flows, recognizing and rewarding the best, and mobilizing global stakeholders for sustainable transformation has been profound. . In the Middle East, where new buildings are being built in large numbers and the existing stock yearns for technology-driven optimization, CIBSE UAE’s ambitious regional roadmap is cause for celebration.
