The Federal Government has advised prospective United Arab Emirates (UAE) visa applicants to clearly state their visa preferences without any ambiguity when applying, and also to abide by the immigration laws of other countries to to avoid unjustified treatment.

A statement signed by Francisca Omayuli, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted that the UAE government had introduced a new visa regime and had stopped issuing tourist visas to people under the age of 40.

This, he said, followed some videos on social media showing Nigerians stranded in Dubai calling on the federal government after being refused entry at the airport.

According to the statement, prospective visa applicants are now required to clearly state their visa preferences.

The Federal Government has urged Nigerians to abide by the immigration laws of other countries to avoid unfair treatment.

The statement read: “The attention of the Federal Government has been drawn to a video on social media, showing allegedly stranded Nigerians, who arrived at Dubai Airport, United Arab Emirates on August 29, 2022 , but were denied entry into the country despite having valid visas. .

“The Nigerian Mission in Dubai clarified that most of the supposedly stranded Nigerians have been issued family visas, to arrive in Dubai alone without any family members. Consequently, they were refused entry and advised to return to their country and apply for the appropriate visa.

“However, those allowed to enter the country have family members in the UAE, while those who claimed their family members were on another flight were told to wait at the airport while waiting. their arrival.

“The general public is invited to note and be guided by the fact that the government of the United Arab Emirates has introduced a new visa regime and has stopped issuing tourist visas to persons under the age of 40, except for those applying for a family visa.

“It is therefore instructive for prospective visa applicants to clearly state their visa preferences without any ambiguity and also to respect the immigration laws of other countries to avoid unfair treatment.”
