Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union conference says no progress can be made in Yemen amid violations by Houthi militias

Speakers of Arab parliaments attending the 32nd Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union have affirmed their strong condemnation of the attempts by Houthi militias to threaten the security and sovereignty of the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

In their final statement on Friday, they condemned the recent missile and drone attacks against the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, which they say pose a direct threat to Arab and international peace. The parliamentarians expressed their full support for the measures taken by the two nations to defend their security, their soil and their people.

They also condemned the Houthi militias’ continued attempts to control Yemen by force and their defiance of the calls of the UN Security Council and the international community in this regard.

The statement underlined that no progress can be made in Yemen amid the continuous violations committed by the Houthi militias and underlined the importance of the cooperation of Arab parliaments in the implementation of the resolution n° 2216 of 2015 of the Security Council, which bans the supply of weapons to the Houthis, as well as Arab League Resolution No. 8725 of 2022, which calls for the Houthis to be designated as a terrorist group.

In its final statement, the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union reiterated its firm position of solidarity and permanent support for the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people to establish their independent State on the basis of the borders of June 4, 1967, in accordance with the relevant international resolutions . and the Arab Peace Initiative.

The Heads of Arab Parliaments welcomed all Arab initiatives aimed at ensuring solidarity and cooperation in the face of crises, pandemics and disasters and overcoming all inter-Arab differences.

They also stressed the importance of resolving any Arab conflict internally and preventing any regional interference in Arab affairs in order to ensure the security and stability of the Arab region. In this context, they stressed the importance of resolving the crisis in Syria and maintaining its sovereignty, territorial integrity and security; achieve stability in Sudan; accelerate the formation of a Libyan national government without foreign interference; and the maintenance of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia.

The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union thanked Egypt for hosting the 32nd Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference and appreciated the support of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, and his concrete role in supporting joint Arab action and at the service of Arab and Islamic causes.
