An overwhelming majority of Nigerians believe that global collaboration and technology are crucial to address humanity’s pressing challenges.

This is indicated by a global survey conducted by Expo 2020 Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to the 2021 survey conducted in partnership with YouGov, 75% of Nigerians who participated in the study believe that better knowledge sharing between communities and individuals can help build a better future.

With a sample of 22,000 people, who crossed 24 countries and followed sentiment in a world irreversibly changed by COVID-19, it was noted that 96% said countries need to work together to deal with global crises such as a pandemic.

This sentiment is also reflected in Nigeria, with the majority expressing that a greater partnership between individuals and communities was essential, reflected in responses elsewhere in Africa, according to the UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Managing Director of Expo 2020 Dubai, Ms. Reem. Al Hashimy.

While delivering a welcome speech and a reminder on the World Expo to be held in the country in less than two months, she noted that the themed event Connect minds, create the future, will take place from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

Nigerian respondents also believe that technological advancements and inventions will continue to play a role in building communities around the world.

Based on the report, this figure is higher than the average responses of 57% and 44% respectively in Asia and Europe.

Elsewhere, half of Nigerian respondents (50%) ranked increasing opportunities for young people as a higher priority than any for the future. That’s about 11 options in the poll.

For his part, Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates and Nigeria’s Commissioner General at Expo 2020 Dubai, Mr. Mohammed Dansanta Rimi, expressed optimism that Nigerians want to see technological advancements bring people together.

He noted that Nigeria will showcase the technology sectors during the 182 days that the exhibition will take place.

Nigeria’s presence at Expo 2020 will also stimulate conversations in other areas such as agriculture, manufacturing and the creative industries by showcasing the country’s culture to the world.

Nigeria has scheduled 23 personalized events, featuring Afrobeat music and the thriving Nollywood film scene, as it will highlight its abundance of cultural, creative and economic opportunities.
